I take being emperor seriously but I feel like I'm the only one.

This is a follow-up to Fitlet2 Impressions.

Annoyances

There are a few things that have not worked perfectly.

  1. The GPIO LEDs on the device can't easily be turned off by default, or set to off when the system comes out of standby or is turned on.
  2. The system is CPU-bound. This was obvious. But having added a second monitor, the lack of dedicated graphics acceleration in Linux is very noticeable. Running terminal, Slack, Firefox, and Thunderbird and playing a YouTube video, the video will stutter.
  3. The chassis gets very hot

It's tempting to move up to a more recent CPU from AMD. The Fitlet is quite old. I want to eventually retire my "server" in the house, so this is probably how I'll do that, when I do.

I should say, the LEDs often stay on when the Fitlet is off, too.
I'm considering a Lenovo ThinkCentre M75q. You can get them from a dealer open-box with all the bells and whistles. It's not 15W total like the Fitlet2, but the APU is 35W TDP, and it performs better than my 125W 8-core from 2012.
@33MHz your fitlet2 nut cutting it?
AMD FX-8350 [amd.com] vs AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 3400GE [amd.com]

Wow, the new Ryzen can take 30℃ more!
@thrrgilag I think I could get away with it, but when WFH became permanent and I got a second monitor, the euation changed for significantly worse. :(
