Thoughts so far on my birthday gift: Boogie Board Blackboard

It is a smooth and delightful tactile experience!

They need to work on getting a matte surface. In the office there are overhead lights everywhere and I have to move my head a lot to view the whole slate. Then if I should wish to use the app, glare is a huge problem.

Once calibrated, partial erasing works!

The app is pretty good. The color tags and notes don’t export though, and that is the best way to know what’s in the file since it is handwriting. I’d rather organize notes in a folder somewhere accessible by my computers but I don’t know how to include keywords.

Occasionally pulling a file into OneNote will work with handwriting recognition. It has worked with files from the app. Using the scanner on the copy machine looks good to my eyes but not to OneNote.

I want to experiment more with flatbed scanning due to glare when using a phone camera.

Bic mechanical pencils with the lead retracted make nice, fine lines on the slate. It is fun to have options. I really want to improve my sketching by using the Blackboard.

@mandy You must be referring to something like this [coolthings.com]

Looks great to me in terms of workflow.
@mandy nice. Do you worry about the metal end of a mechanical pencil marking the device?
@33MHz Yes! The typical Bic is all plastic. Perhaps if a ball-point was out of ink it might work but I won’t be trying any metal unless it is very rounded.
@joe Do you envision a good workflow? So far it’s more fun for drawing since I like my notes to persist. But I love the idea of this technology progressing. The new pen by Kent Displays has a kickstarter and I plan to sign up.
@mandy ah, gotcha.
The Blackboard is great for tracing. Here’s a tracing of a Dictionopolis advisor from _The Phantom Tollbooth_
@mandy That's cool!
The LCD slate manufacturer, Kent Displays or Boogie Board, is sending me another stylus for free just to try. That’s really nice! I e-mailed to ask if they could recommend one that wouldn’t damage the Blackboard and now they’re giving me one.
