I have been doing curve fitting on the time series data for Covid 19 cases and deaths data. It occurs to me, I could use exactly the same math but instead of finding a relation between the date and either of the data series, I could find the relation between the two data series. i.e. I could seek coefficients of polynomials that produce the number of deaths in X days given the number of cases today. One friend who is a health statistics statistician said I have no model in mind and I will not be able to assign meaning to my findings even if I do turn up some predictive capacity. Anyone got a clue for me?

this idea has been abandoned. There ARE parameters but unavailable and the rest is noise which no math is going to turn into information. Besides Covid-19 "dash board" pages with good UI and effective graphics have popped up everywhere.
