@der_Jeff there's a lot of people who I wouldn't consider fools that voted for Brexit. From what I can see those that benefits from the EU (and could tangibly see this through their job etc) voted to stay - those that couldn't voted to exit. I think it's complete bollocks that only racist people voted out - it was much more a vote against the establishment. // @cirrus @pisolita @blumenkraft @bazbt3

@cirrus this one is hilarious! this administration makes it into history books only for their ignorance…
@blumenkraft whilst i disagree with your 'no brexit' stance, i totally agree that it is one heluva mess and something needs to be done post haste.
@cirrus don't you think the re-election could open a window to overthink and/or even end brexit?
@blumenkraft @cirrus as I understood it there is no way out once article 50 has been triggered. Brexit will happen in 2 years at the latest, no matter what
@blumenkraft i think the people have spoken, granted Scotland majority did vote to remain, but we did opt to stay in UK, for our sins
@pisolita I wouldn't be too sure, the powers that be do not want it to happen so there's every chance that it wont, [i'm lookin at you house of unelected lords] /@blumenkraft
@pisolita My old gran told me in 80s the next war would be due to the fact 'all the countries would join up, and 1 would break away' & it would be cause of next WW, i used to think she was a mad old bible thumper, im having second thoughts /@blumenkraft
@pisolita if Britain is saying 'sorry, bad joke, we want to be part of the EU anyway' i bet everyone in the EU agrees to forget the 50. it wouldn be cheaper for evertone, not only for Britain.
// @cirrus
@cirrus this is quite dystopic. :(
// @pisolita
@blumenkraft the EU have already said we can 'forget it' and welcomed back if we want... I think - can't find the news article now!
// @cirrus @pisolita
@RossA @pisolita @cirrus @blumenkraft I wonder how long it would take those in favour of Brexit to settle down to pre-hype lives, if the UK decides Brexit cannot happen. It'd be ugly for a while but, ultimately, what can they *do* to frustrate the future?
@RossA this is the only logical thing to do. when the brexit vote took place i predicted it will not happen anyway. it looks good for my prediction i think. ;)
@cirrus @pisolita
@bazbt3 don't tell me there are still brexit supporter… @RossA @pisolita @cirrus
@blumenkraft I have a few colleagues, friends, relatives… yes there are.
// @cirrus @pisolita @RossA
@bazbt3 that was one of them! :/) thanks
// @blumenkraft @cirrus @pisolita
@blumenkraft quite a lot still!
// @cirrus @pisolita @bazbt3
@bazbt3 only that would be very ugly unless another referendum was called - you'd be going against the majority (I even if small) of people in the country
// @blumenkraft @cirrus @pisolita
@der_Jeff we are in this all together. schadenfreude is for people not getting actually hurt only.
@RossA @bazbt3 @pisolita @cirrus
@RossA what is this 'anti establishment' thing coming from anyway? since when is it bad to put intelligent people in charge? never understood this argument.
@der_Jeff @cirrus @pisolita
@blumenkraft @cirrus @RossA @bazbt3 when I was living in the UK I learnt that most Brits don't feel like being part of Europe, was quite shocking for me. I think that's the underlying problem. And ignorance of all the things in the background
@blumenkraft @cirrus @RossA @bazbt3 ...such as medicine's authorisation, patents, science funding... people don't know about this, all they see and believe are those UKIP lies
@RossA well, what we see is that people elect forces that obviously amplify this unequality problem, right? i don't understand the argumet _and_ the outcome of the argument. :)
#madworld
@pisolita totally agree with this. The only time we hear about EU stuff is when it is negatively affecting is
// @bazbt3 @cirrus @blumenkraft
@pisolita yeah, i know. :( misinformation is a weapon of mass destruction! @cirrus @RossA @bazbt3
@RossA every democratic voting system has it's flaws. i think liquid democracy [en.wikipedia.org] is the way to go in the future.
this way you really get the most intelligent in their fields in charge.
@RossA Even WRT referendum, putting a vote on Brexit to the bar of a simple majority seemed weird anyway. Should have had a two-thirds majority bar given its gravity. @bazbt3 @blumenkraft @pisolita @cirrus
@blumenkraft @cirrus @RossA nah, I had the same feeling at first, but now I think it will happen. The UK will most likely end up like Norway: paying for EEA access but without any rights. And then they want to join again.
@pisolita let us just hope i'm right. would be way less pain in the ass of Europe. ;)
@cirrus @RossA
@jws No-one thought it'd happen, that the popular vote would be a protest rather than a vote for the issues. I'm biased.
// @cirrus @pisolita @blumenkraft @RossA
@bazbt3 "Protest vote" seems a fundamental misunderstanding of how voting systems work. It's a rare system (i.e. not one where most people are "protest voting") that lets you express negative preference directly. @cirrus @blumenkraft @pisolita @RossA
@jws The Brexit vote was *indeed* a rare event: a 'once-in-a-lifetime' chance to vote on a yes-no choice. It's extraordinarily rare in the UK; usual voting is for a party, not the US model of voting for issues too.
// @RossA @pisolita @blumenkraft @cirrus
@jws Voters disadvantaged by absent coherent UK government policies over decades felt the most let-down so voted against a Europe directly subsidising their areas. Immigration control is the biggest *issue* though.
// @RossA @pisolita @blumenkraft @cirrus
@jws Rather than looking at the big picture, UK's future in a changing world, a lot simply picked one issue and to hell with the rest. No holistic approach to decision-making process, lots of trust in politicians.
// @RossA @pisolita @blumenkraft @cirrus
@der_Jeff I persuaded 2 colleagues to vote for the first time. Both went for Brexit. (German-owned company with cheaper manufacturing subsidiaries in continental Europe.)
// @cirrus @pisolita @blumenkraft @jws @RossA
@der_Jeff oh boy, good for you! i'm glad and proud. :)
@bazbt3 @RossA @jws @pisolita @cirrus
@bazbt3 "lots of trust in politicians" ‼️ What a different reality you must have over there! Here, people distrust politicians, politics, government, and even voting.
// @cirrus @blumenkraft @pisolita @RossA
@jws It's honestly the same here. Yet voters now trust that the same politicians WILL broker a deal to ensure nothing changes in post-Brexit Merry Olde England. Nowhere else matters I'm afraid. Eating cake already.
// @RossA @pisolita @blumenkraft @cirrus
@der_Jeff One of them is reasonably intelligent too, a valued co-worker. ;)
// @RossA @pisolita @blumenkraft @jws @cirrus
@jws problem is, there are a lot of honest politicians, but the common voters have no glue what they have to deal with and the complexity of political issues.
// @RossA @pisolita @cirrus @bazbt3
@jws also the criticism is mostly bullish and does not address the real problems anyway.
// @RossA @pisolita @cirrus @bazbt3
@blumenkraft If criticism and disengagement solved problems, we would be sitting on the biggest pile of solved problems right now.
// @bazbt3 @cirrus @pisolita @RossA
@der_Jeff look at the local ones! the ones not in the spotlight. you can influence them, throw arguments at them - they will understand. you are democracy. we all are. :)
@RossA you're nick reminded me of an old video i sync'd audio to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFZimo-vihg // @pisolita @bazbt3 @blumenkraft
@cirrus nice techno! you made it?
@RossA @pisolita @bazbt3
@blumenkraft Afraid not, i only added/synced the audio to the video. @RossA @pisolita @bazbt3
@pisolita Sorry for late response, just had to say it may have something to do with us being an island and feeling inherently isolated (just a thought) @blumenkraft @RossA
Perfect isolation,
here behind my wall
