@Streakmachine Reading the Observer online, seems to be a battle between senior scientists, who say it is an epidemic, and WHO, who say it is not.

@Streakmachine this has been my work week.
@jacobrealo Major suckage, right?
@Kabuku Yes, a thousand times this! Instead all this hysteria has done is made nincompoops stockpile toilet paper and let the racist assholes have a field day out in the daylight.
@Kabuku All things in perspective, but right now it’s more profitable to fan the fires of hysteria.
@Kabuku Yup. It’s just so sad that one of the first thing we think of and react to is economy, made up numbers, rather than human lives. Like, good going, humanity!
@Streakmachine most of the people I see who are freaked out on a quick glance don’t appear to be in a risk pool that would likely suffer the worst if they could reacted the disease.

@Streakmachine *contract

@Kabuku Just a friendly reminder that mortality rates have nothing to do with the definition of a pandemic.

/@Streakmachine
@Kabuku the definition of a pandemic of a newly emerged pathogen is that there is active transmission on all continents. Nobody has to die for it to be a pandemic. Of course, then nobody would care either, but that’s the way we are.

/@Streakmachine
@Kabuku I seem to recall reports of cases in Nigeria, exported from Italy. But not transmission yet.

/@Streakmachine
@Kabuku Not unexpected.
