@schoeni to be honest I'd just go for the best you can afford. I'm on a hire bike this week and the v brakes are shocking. Certainly disc brakes if you afford it. Here's the best from 2016: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/article/best-mountain-bike-disc-brakes-33540/

@RossA nice...how do u like Strava as a fitness tracking app?
@RossA What kind of brakes do you use on your bike? Any brand you'd recommend?
@MrFresh don't really use it to track my fitness as such but I love it for tracking rides / runs. The segments are a real incentive as well. For a free app (you can pay for pro) I can't think of anything better. If you can you can often import into Strava.
@MrFresh if you do download it you can find local running / cycling groups. You can also form virtual groups - there's a pNut one - only me in it at the moment though! 😂
@RossA LOL..cool, I've heard of it before as I hear Pebble watch fitness data can sync to it. Rides and runs are definitely fitness related. I think I'll download it and become member #2 in your virtual club 👍🏽
@MrFresh excellent - you get Pro for 30 days - to be honest I'm not sure what extra you get to make it worthwhile. Unless you're really into you Data! Wow - two members in the pNut club - we can only go up! ;-)
@RossA Up, up and away. Looking to get back into cycling and running!
@MrFresh only really writing it for myself! Sometimes I just feel like writing something!
@RossA I enjoyed the article and always wished I could cycle to work.
@RossA I was using Cyclematic and need to re-up my pro status. Maybe I should switch to Strava. Need to see if I can export my data.
@MrFresh
@MrFresh lol - it's okay some days! Despite being close to my home it's really taken some extra thought to organise cycling to work!
@MrFresh cool - music for TV shows. I need to have a read sometime. Favourited!
@RossA Yes, I know it takes planning!
@RossA Thank you, sir. It's a new endeavor that's a long time coming. I'm at the foot of the hill on this journey.
@jeremycherfas I used Cyclemeter when I first started. I'm pretty certain that you can import into Strava - that might be as you cycle though... @MrFresh
@RossA Seems like an awful faff to have to do one at a time. And I would have to renew anyway.
@MrFresh
@jeremycherfas why not just go from now with Strava. You can have the Cyclemeter records go into Strava as well as Cyclemeter and no cost for Strava.

@RossA Is it called punt? There is a pnut team based in Texas someplace. @MrFresh
@RossA And I'm in. Thanks. Although there's no way I will be competing with you.
