Where have I been contd.
iOS would no longer update on my iPhone 8 and none of my desktops, all-in-ones or tablets sport the emperors new Microsoft security chip so no more patches for me. This in an era when the growing rabble of digital burglars and, now, AI vulnerability discoveries means you need patches almost daily.
I have now got Linux Mint running on all the boxen and Android on my new phone. MS can go pound sand. So far so good.
I have forgotten these languages: Fortran(s) Assembly languages from IBM 360 to Motorola 68000, Cobol, Bliss, Magic L, some of C, assorted versions of Basic, JavaScript and Java. But I still write apps in Python for personal use and projects. The retirement from software engineering has been successful in removing the stress of start-ups and soul-sickening objectives of corporate software development. And best of all, I still get to code but for causes and puzzles that grab me, nothing more.
I survived one bout of "lets buy an old house and flip it". I got married. There is presently a profitable rental unit on the land to which we mean to retire. I sold my backhoe. The number and scope of projects grow smaller each year but I think I have one more cabin in me, and a PV array to build so my EV's won't go hungry.
Small scale agriculture and other "resilience" activities are on the drawing board.
As mentioned, reigning in the hours I spend on social media is a challenge. My presence here will be > 0 but measured.
