K-9 Mail Acquired by Mozilla Foundation owned Thunderbird to create a Android app
So the last true open source email Android app left in K-9 Mail is soon dying. Sigh.... https://k9mail.app/2022/06/13/K-9-Mail-and-Thunderbird.html
I hate this timeline. I know Thunderbird is community based these days, but it's still part of Mozilla in some way and this is a sad day really. Maybe this is a opportunity for someone to build a alternative but it's going to be very difficult if not impossible to do. Just ask FairEmail and their struggles for instance.
The ONLY saving grace about K-9 Mail is that anyone can fork it and the work continues so I hope that someone can do that but like I said it's going to be very difficult if not impossible to maintain, especially with the changing landscape (GMail for one with OAUTH2).
